Texture Tuesday - Golden

I'm trying something new. I've been obsessed with Kim Klassen's website since I found it a few weeks ago. Beautiful, Beautiful photos. She has a Texture Tuesdays where her readers are encouraged to share photos they have texturized.

Here I go.

An old logging vehicle in the forest with Kim's Golden texture overlayed at abou 67% then a layer mask to reveal the tractor a bit more than the background. (I hope I'm getting this right.)

45 - Shadow Daisy

I'm becoming more and more interested in shadows. I'm not to the obsessed point yet, but, it could happen. That's just how I roll. Find something to obsess on and photograph it to death. Past / current obsessions always include flowers, anything macro, Harley and well, maybe soon shadows.

You'll be the first to know.

44 - Studebaker Avanti

Walked through a classic car show. Took many, many photos. None of them all that interesting. How does that happen?!

43 - My Love

He has those days when he just won't leave my side. It doesn't matter what I am doing, where I am walking or sitting, he's there by my side, rubbing on me, cooing, purring, pawing me, soaking up the bits of attention I have to spare and/or lavish. This was one of those days. His warm, sweet and cute little personality is touched on here in this photo. Love him more than candy.

42 - Giraffe

A toy giraffe, found in a sandbox, sparked a conversation in which I saw my dear sweet and grumpy friend of 15 years, crying with laughter. It softened my heart a little.

41 - Dahlia

Yellow. One of my favorite colors. I would never choose a dahlia. Mister did and I'm that glad he did.

40 - Bud

39 - Mesmerized

Life comes at you. It doesn't give you a reprieve when you ask for one.

It.just.keeps.coming.

And that's not a bad thing, but it surely can be an overwhelming thing. It can take you out at the knees and then steamroll you before you have a chance to recover.

Being Alive, to me, is like those scenes in a boxing movie or a martial arts film or even a Wile E. Coyote short, where the downtrodden

just.keep.trying.to.get.up.

Even when they seem to be down for the count. Even when you (as viewer) can see they should just stay down and the baddie might move on...

they.keep.on.trying.

That's who I hope I am. That's who I strive to be. I might get trompled, but I'm always fighting for what is rightfully mine. Always trying to

get.back.to.life.

TGIF.

38 - Clematis

I tried not to post a photo of my clematis this year. Alas, I just love it and could not stop myself. Enjoy.

34 - Marigold

Marigolds at my parent's house. I've always loved the pot these are in.

33 - Dragonfly

Plant ornament in a plant we are babysittting. (yes, you read that correctly.) I decided I should start to make these cute little bugs. I have one prototype. We'll see if I get past the prototype and make more than just the one.

Just Watched: Despicable Me

Yeah, I can't believe I haven't posted that Mister and I watched this movie. In fact, Mister and I have watched this movie over and over again, with each other, with many sets of friends and actually listened to it playing over the sound system in our house. I have for the first time ever, downloaded ringtones, they are Despicable Me bytes. We, simply put, have loved the crap out of this movie.

I will say, that the first time we watched it, we liked it. Then, for whatever reason, we ended up with a copy of it which people have wanted to see, so, we sit down and watch it with them and by-gum (hehe colloquialisms, gotta love 'em) if we haven't liked it more with each viewing. We, and others, have found ourselves quoting the darned movie.

So, I am thinking you might get that I would recommend this CG movie about a supervillain who finds his heart in the most unlikely place - three orphan girls. They are cute and funny and I have found traits in those girls that I embody, happily. Traits that when seen outside of myself, I think are endearing and heartwarming. I am hoping I also radiate those feelings in others.

Let me know what you thought / think.

Calendar - June 2011

I *just* realized I didn't post a June calendar. Nary a one of you said a thing. Its the 15th, so, there remains half the month. HERE is the link to the high(er) res version.

32 - Water Feature

Antique water pump that Mister has made into a water feature in our yard. I love the sound of water running. So, calming and dreamy.

31 - Lone Tree

I walk/ride by this tree often and I love it. I've just never quite been able to capture what I feel when I see it. I think the textures added to this particular photo totally help convey that for me.

30 - Honeysuckle

I am having an addiction with textures, masks and overlays right now. Please bear with me while I work through this phase.

6.13.2011

29 - Feeder

The birds don't seem to like it, but the squirrels sure do.

28 - 600

Just a great car and a great woman who owns it.

27 - Train

Graffiti sucks! When my building at work is 'tagged', it's not only irritating, but it costs money and time and effort to get it cleaned up. Why would anyone think they have the right to deface my (or anyone's) property? I just honestly do not get the arrogance of it.

That being said, I think graffiti on trains is interesting and can be quite beautiful. Conundrum much? Don't care. Its how I feel. You?

26 - Sunroom Window

When I moved in with Mister almost four years ago, we had two households full of furniture, art, kitchen appliances and everything else a person has in their home. Being the frugal people we are and me not really all that interested in giving up my furniture, Mister enclosed the patio he had built and made what we call our sunroom. We have a beautiful outdoor table and chairs which seats eight, sofa, love seat, miscellaneous other furniture, plants and my elliptical.

Its rather great to go out in the Spring or the Fall and be able to almost be out of doors while being on my ellip. Because the room isn't weather tight or insulated, it is completely at the mercy of whatever weather we are having. In the winter, it will get so cold I can't exercise out there. I've tried. I even have a space heater that I place practically right under the machine. I've tried at times to tough it out and ended up with frozen lungs. Well, they felt frozen to me and my nose all runny and me shivering. That is when I get out my exercise tapes (I have many) and stay in the house.

Summer is similar. As of two days ago, the sunroom had no windows. It has a screen door for a door. I can open the top half of that and get a bit of air, but when the weather gets up to 70 or above, the room becomes stifling and pretty much unusable. Wow, I'm rambling. So, Mister got a deal (free) on some windows and installed one yesterday enabling us to create a cross breeze, in hopes of making the sunroom more user friendly during the actual sun months.
And I'm out of words for now.
Enjoy your summer.

25 - Hummingbird Feeder

Feeder and hanging fuschia basket on our front porch. A cozy nook we've created so we can truly be suburban, sitting on our front porch with a glass of wine in the evening, watching the street scenes unfold.

24 - Grill

An homage, if you will, to the Jeep that has taken me everywhere, in every circumstance, that I have wanted to go. No snow drift has ever been too high. No sheet of ice has ever been to slippery. No stretch of highway too long. It has hauled my bike around, camping gear, taken me skiing, snowshoeing and hiking, we've traveled to the mountains, the desert, the beach, the great Yellowstone National Park alone and with friends. I love my Jeep. There, I said it. Deal with it.

Alternative Commuting

During the summer, I try to ride my bike to/from work a couple times a week. No, I don't do it when the weather turns foul which is coincidentally when night fall, ie dark, is earlier and earlier in the day. I am a bit of a wuss when it comes to the dark. I don't actually mind riding in the rain - well, light rain, heavy downpours - not so much.

Anyway, riding my bike serves multiple purposes:

  • it saves money to use less gasoline;
  • its better for the environment to drive less;
  • its a good hour of cardio I don't have to do when I get home;
  • its good for my mood to be outdoors;
  • the morning ride gets my metabolism all revved up;
  • the evening ride helps me de-stress after work;
  • my husband thinks I'm a rock star when I commute by bike;

All these things keep me riding during the summer. So why is it that two days ago when my Jeep broke down and needed to spend a few days in the shop that I resented (just a wee bit) that I HAD to ride my bike to work? I mean, I had in my head the list above (I sometimes compose blog posts in my head while riding.... yes, that is who I am) but I was a bit cranky about the whole thing. Its a dichotomy I didn't realize existed in my mind, but, there it is -- making me think about it.

Do you have opposing thoughts on things you struggle (or don't struggle) with? How does one reconcile these things? Or, maybe there is no reconciliation, maybe its ok to see two sides of an issue and realize there's more than one way to view, well, just about everything.

If you are wondering what the photo at the top has to do with this post... well, stop wondering. It has nothing to do with anything other than I wanted a photo to be included with this post.

That is all for now.

20 - Cork

Date night appetizer and wine list.
Its hard to go wrong with a Malbec.
That's been my experience.

19 - Rosebud

The first little rose in our yard this year.

Just Watched: The King's Speech

Yes, with Colin Firth! He does amazing things with the character. Helena Bonham Carter - not much more needs to be said - so interesting!!
King George VI. I had no idea he had a speech impediment, a stammer. Apparently he had a speech coach of quite unconventional methods. That part was played by Geoffrey Rush - again, So Interesting!
This is the story of KGVI's rise to the throne and the difficulties, associated specifically with his stammer, in getting there.
Not much more to say on it. It was a good film which was well acted that I recommend you go out and rent soon.

Just Watched: A Single Man

Colin Firth - no words. Ok, a few words. I have grown to adore this man's acting skills. And Julianne Moore, not on my list of adored actors, until of late. I've seen her in a few films recently, maybe its coincidence, or maybe she's just in a lot lately. (eg The Kids are All Right) Whatever it is, I'm liking her more and more.

A Single Man is the one day (I think) story of George, a gay man in the 1960's who has recently lost his life partner to a tragic accident. The loss he feels internally but isn't allowed to feel publicly, in the company of basically anyone in his life. Being gay in 1962 wasn't quite the same as being gay today. The only person he now has, is his former lover Charley (Julianne Moore) who is going through her own dark time and still harbors feelings for George.

Its dramatic and dark (well, to me, it was less dark and more sepia) and difficult and never brought me to tears. It took me right up to the brink of them, then pulled back and let me settle in to the story once again.

I thought it was a great movie about life and fear and lonliness and recovering from it all.

18 - Bud Vase

Shooting in B/W is supposed to flex and grow your photographic eye. I'm giving it a whirl. Its more difficult than I imagined. I hope to grow a lot in doing so.

17 - Blue Umbrella

Blue Umbrella on the deck where we BBQ'd for Memorial Day. It was raining at our house, we drove a mile or two and it was sunny and beautiful.

16 - Our Kitchen

Boring, boring, boring. But, somehow in this light, I like the way it looks. Almost like looking into someone else's life. Not sure what that means. Not going to analyze it.
